Howard "Doc" A. Dawson, DVM, 81, of San Diego, CA passed away on June 30, 2007, of cancer. Howard was born on July 26, 1925, in Detroit, MI. He grew up and lived most of his life in the Detroit area, served his country as a US Marine, and graduated from Michigan State University with a DVM degree in 1956. He practiced veterinary medicine at the Hazel Park Raceway and Detroit Race Course, retiring to San Diego in 1992. For the past 15 years Howard and Phyllis made their home in lovely Rancho Bernardo where he was vice president on the board of directors and landscaping chairman for the Chapala condominium complex. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis E. Dawson, married 55 years; daughters, Sandy Ritter and Cheryl Blacklock; son Dr. Michael Dawson of La Quinta; grandchildren, Jenifer Blacklock, Jason Ritter, Danielle and Rachelle Dawson. There will be a private memorial service and Howard's remains will be inurned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma in San Diego with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Howard's name to one of the following organizations: Chapala Park Beautification Project in Memory of Howard "Doc" Dawson %Elite Community Management, 11717 Bernardo Plaza Court, Suite 110, San Diego, CA 92128.
