OBITUARY:

Old Town: Leland H. Davis, age 88, son of Anges Mayo Davis and Leland H. Davis of Old Town went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2011.

Leland was a life resident of Old Town where he enjoyed a variety of activities from fishing, hunting, golfing, and throwing horse shoes. In 1991, he traveled to Biloxi Mississippi and earned the world title for throwing horse shoes.
Leland served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1945 when he received an honorable discharge. He continued to serve his community as a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization as a past commander. He also worked at both the local shoe factory and paper mill until his retirement in 1989. During his retirement, Leland enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren.
Leland is survived by his wife of 58 years; Esther Davis of Old Town, 5 daughters; Cindy Davis of DelRay Beach, Patricia Bradstreet of Old Town , Carol Shaw of Charleston, Diane Searles of Casco,and Debbie Davis of France. He is also survived by 3 sisters; Ella Dorr of Venice, Florida, Lydia Drake of Tacoma,Washington, and Barbara McCloud of Sanford;
11 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
Leland was predeceased by his parents, son Michael, daughter Joyce, and three sisters; Francis, Ethel, and Thelma.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family for his many stories and tales, especially by his favorite son in law Michael and granddaughter "Kaluka."
On behalf of Leland, a heartfelt thank-you to all of the wonderful people at the Veterans Home who treated him with dignity and respect during his final weeks. We will be ever grateful to all of the friends and families we met during his final journey as he made his way home to be with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leland's name to the Maine Veterans Home Unit C, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Me. 04401
A memorial service will be held at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town followed by a burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial and the date of this service will be announced at a later time.
