GALENA, Kan. — Charles S. Davis, retired medical doctor, age 84, passed away at his home suddenly Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007.

Dr. Davis was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Galena. His parents were Tobe and Effie (Tannous) Davis. He was a lifetime resident of Galena and graduated from Galena High School in 1940. He practiced medicine for 40 years in the Galena and Joplin areas. He attended Joplin Junior College, Joplin, Mo.; Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kan.; Stanford University; Kansas University; and Baylor University. His medical degree was from Kansas University and post-graduate studies from Baylor University.

He was a lifelong member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Galena. He was also a member of St John's Mercy Regional Foundation, Joplin, serving on the board of directors and grant committee for the past 20 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, receiving the Combat Medical Badge, and was discharged with the rank of captain.

In addition to his parents, his family included one brother, the late Robert Davis; his children, Robert and Toni; and two sisters, the late Marjorie Bock and her son, Steven, and Betty Edmondson and her son, Greg, of Joplin.

A rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, with visitation to follow at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Galena. The celebrant will be Father Justin Monaghan. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena. Pallbearers will be Bill Hall, Dr. Richard Joseph, Keith Williams, David Swaney, Charles Schwartz and Rick LaTurner. Honorary pallbearers will be John Joseph, Merle Allen, Greg Edmondson, Steven Bock and Roy Derfelt.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Fund, Galena.
