Albert John "Preacher" Davis, 82, left this earth to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 28, 2007.
Funeral: A celebration of Al's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 17, 1924, in Celeste to John Alford and Rosa Lee Davis, Al met and married Billie Spoonemore, his wife of 64 years, in Greenville. Shortly after their marriage Al left for the South Pacific, serving as a B-17 gunner in the Army Air Forces during World War II. His bravery and valor resulted in numerous medals and decorations.
After returning from the war, Al attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After being ordained in 1954, his ministries included serving as the chaplain for Post 569 and the 12th District of the American Legion, chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol, and chaplain for numerous area hospitals. He also started and led the American Legion Chapel.
Al retired after 31 years from the Fort Worth Water Department as their safety director, and spent his remaining time faithfully serving his family, his church and his fellow veterans.
Survivors: Wife, Billie Marie Davis; son, Johnny Michael Davis; daughter, Mary Carol Raub; grandchildren, Kevin Davis, Gwen Davis, Eric Raub and Erin Raub; and great-grandchildren, Reilly Davis and Keegan Davis.
