He was the son of Milton F. Davis Sr. and Bessie Hall Davis.

In 1934, he married Catherine Dale Owen, a stage and screen actress.

On October 4, 1946 he married Lieut. Commander Hallie Carson, USNR In Washington, District of Columbia. She was the daughter of William Dukes Carson and Harriet DeVeaux Carson.

They had no children.
