Madras resident Dean Arthur Davis died at his home March 19, 2002, at the age of 85.
Mr. Davis was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Held, Ore., to parents Delmer and Blanche (Larkin) Davis. He graduated from Estacada High School in 1935. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to Central Oregon.
He married Leta Margaret Smith on Nov. 4, 1937 in Bend. They moved to Madras, where Mr. Davis was employed for Jefferson Potato Company as a potato buyer. He retired from that job in November 1981.
Mr. Davis was a produce buyer for Safeway for several years prior to moving to Madras. He was a charter member and a life member of the Madras Elks Lodge. His special interests included hunting, fishing, driving the backcountry, and being a fan of the Portland Trailblazers and Gonzaga University Bulldogs. He also enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Leta Davis of Madras; daughter and son-n-law, Donna and Lynn Corwin of Eagle Point; son and daughter-in-law, William and Sharon (Fickes) Davis of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Neil Davis of Bend; sister, Ruth Beesley of Culver; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Delmer Eugene Davis.
Funeral services were held March 23, at Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Chapel. A private family burial was held at Redmond Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Mountain View Hospice in care of Mountain View Hospital. Arrangements were under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras.
