Charles Lavelle "Skeeter" Davis, Jr., age 90, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at his home in Minden after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on February 21, 1923 in Hope (now called Fryeburg) to the late Charles Lavelle and Susie Davis. He graduated from Hope High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate Third Class in Pacific Arena during World War II. He then re-enlisted and served an additional tour of duty and received a second Honorable Discharge in 1952.
His career as a business owner included Coffee Cup Café, Magnolia Motel, Southern Kitchen, Minden Concrete, Express Ready Mix, Alpha Construction, and Alpha Railroad and Piling Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lavelle Davis, Sr. and Susie Mae Wedgeworth Davis; his brother, Henry Gene Davis; and his son Charles Rick Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years JoAnn Harkness Davis, his children, Janet Elaine Davis of Haughton; and William Kevin Davis of Mobile, AL; his grandchildren, Sampson Pritchard and his wife Amy of Princeton; Joel Rick Davis of Fort Worth, TX; Sarah Elizabeth Davis of Bossier; Benjamin Pritchard and his wife Kelly of Bossier; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Billie Sue Garrett of Shreveport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Crider and Rev. Bill Ichter.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Benton, Gary Brown, Jack Byrd, Raymond Dale, Larry Garrett, Mike Garrett, Stan Harkins, and Jimmy Heflin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Courtney, Judge Hansen, Tommy Moseley, James Powell, and Albert Tucker.
The family would like to express special thanks to his caretakers, Sandra Stone, and Brenda Williams; Regional Hospice nurses, Natalie Benson, Christie McDearmont and Pam Woods; social worker, Kristie Austin; Chaplain, Andrew Abshire; Aide, Barbara Calloway. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
