Entered into eternal rest on the morning of December 13, 2002, J. Hugh Davis, Jr., husband of Rachel Pruitt Davis. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hugh Davis, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Monday, December 16, 2002 at eleven o'clock. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Sunday between five and seven o'clock. Mr. Davis, was born June 21, 1919 in Washington, D.C., the son of Lt. Colonel J. Hugh Davis and Frances Hinton Davis. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He served with the US Navy during W.W.II. He founded the Davis Warehouse Company in 1964 and retired in 1985. He served as Chairman of the 200thyear Anniversary Fund drive for the University of Georgia in 1985 for Charleston and six surrounding counties of SC. He was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, the Country Club of Charleston, Carolina Yacht Club, past president of the Propeller Club of the U.S. (Port of Charleston), Sons of Confederate Veterans, a charter member of the St. David's Society of Charleston, (Fellow) with the Gibbes Museum of Art, Historic Charleston Foundation, charter member of the University of Georgia President's Club, and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by his wife of Charleston; one son: J. Hugh Davis, III of Charleston: one daughter: Lee Davis Todman of Charleston, SC.
