Alva was born and grew up at the Matulich family ranch in Drytown, Amador County. She married Charles P. Davis in 1937. The couple ranched in the Elk Grove area for many years. Survivors include her sons, Charles A. Davis of Elk Grove and his wife, Rebecca, Richard C. Davis of Stockton and his wife, Eleanor, and Hugh W. Davis also of Elk Grove and his wife, Jacqueline, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Alva was 96 when she died.
