W.A. "Cotton" Davis, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 4 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Rev. Steve Hand and Rev. Keithen Tucker officiating. Eulogy will be given by Trey Davis. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Davis was born April 20, 1923 in Irwin County to the late Abell Franklin and Ora Louise Poole Davis. He was a Farmer and lived in Ben Hill and Irwin counties most of his life. Mr. Davis served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Georgia Pullers Association, National Pullers Association, the VFW, Irwin County Saddle Club, an honorary FFA member and an avid sportsman. Mr. Davis was a member of the Irwinville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Dean Bishop Davis, Fitzgerald; children: Linda Davis Wingate, Macon, Wheelus A. (Regina) Davis, II, Byromville, Art (Susie) Davis, Ocilla, Clenton (Tamaree) Bishop, Ft. Valley, Sheila (Gary) Justice, Waynesville, NC, Dover (Shelia) Bishop and Theo Bishop, both of Fitzgerald; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sister: Janice McNeil, Douglas. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred G. Davis, 1 brother, A.M. "Bubba" Davis, 1 brother-in-law, 1 sister-in-law and 1 son-in-law.
The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blue-Gray Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1447, Fitzgerald, GA 31750 or to the Irwin County Relay For Life c/o Susie Davis, 860 Bugle Lane, Ocilla, GA 31774. (Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society).
