Mary Nell Brown, 90, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Austin, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

One of three daughters, she was born on February 21, 1924 on a cotton farm near Dennis, Texas to Frank and Betty Davis. Upon graduating high school in 1941, Nell attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton where she began her college career, finishing in 1957 with three children in-tow. She married Jack D. Brown on November 25, 1943, to whom she was married for 68 years, until his passing in August, 2012. To this union were born six children – Jackie (deceased) and Stoney Kirkpatrick of Richardson; Sarah and Larry Dewberry of Panama City, Florida; Gib and Jeannette Brown of Amarillo; Dale and Deborah Brown of Atkinson, New Hampshire; Becky and Roy Fulcher of Monument, Colorado; and Laura and Dave Dorcas of Magnolia, Texas. In addition, she is survived by 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Besides her family, she had a unique love for the mountains of southwest Colorado, as well as for horses. Having been raised in rural Texas, she could cook circles around everyone, specializing in endless varieties of breads and rolls. Typical of her generation, she was thrifty, frugal, and thankful. For many years, much of what her children wore, she sewed, and it was pure quality.

She loved, honored, and served the Lord for many years as a Sunday school teacher and leader at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. Her many travels throughout the world help spread the gospel to many people, as well as sharing the spirit, tenacity, and values of her United States.

The family would like to thank her many friends who helped her in her later years, with a special thanks to Linda Zaludek of Horseshoe Bay.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 7 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kulea Childcare Villages www.kuleavillages.org or P.O. Box 333 Atkinson, NH 03811.
