WILLIAM EVAN DAVIES DIES;
HERE SINCE 1872

William Evan (Uncle Billy) Davies, 86, died at his residence at 910 E. 9th St. early yesterday morning.

An employe of the U.S. Pipe & Foundry Co. here for more than 50 years, he had been retired for the past several years, Mr. Davies was born in Wales. He came to Chattanooga in 1872, immediately after his arrival in the United States. He had made his home here since that time.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Foy G. Crabtree and Mrs. Marcus S. Fisher, Chattanooga; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Tom Wrathall of Washington, D.C.; two granddaughters, Mrs. W. H. Wilson of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. J. A. Graham Jr., of Chattanooga; four grandsons, Evan W. Fisher, William R. Fisher and Earl Crabtree of Chattanooga, and M/Sgt. Albert S. Fisher of the Air Force, stationed at Phoenix, Ariz.; and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Davies had been a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church here for more than 70 years. He was also a member of the Men's Bible Class of Trinity Methodist Church, a member of the Half-Century Club and of the International Molders' Union. He was quite active in fraternal orders, having been a member of IOOF since 1889, Sun Lodge, and he was awarded a medal for 60 years of faithful service. He served as Grand Patriarch, Colfax Encampment, as organist for Olive Rebekah Lodge; member of Chattanooga Lodge No. 199 F&AM, and Evangeline Chapter, OES.

Memorial services will be conducted at the National Funeral Home tonight at 8 o'clock by Sun Lodge, IOOF, assisted by all Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of the funeral home by Dr. Joseph T. Urban, assistant rector of St. Paul's, assisted by the Rev. Cato Dick of Trinity Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Evan H. Fisher, Albert S. Fisher, William R. Fisher, Earl Crabtree, W. E. Thompson, C. B. O'Neal Jr., William Morris, Foy Morris and J. A. Graham Jr.
