Funeral services for Anna Belle David, 66, who died Monday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with burial at Robstown Memorial Park in Robstown.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and past member of D.A.V. and an active member of the South Texas Tradition Art Society.
Survivors include one son, Joe David of Garland and two grandchildren.
A less meager obituary might have also included the following: Anna Belle David was born February 22, 1922 on Brown's Creek in Mills County between Goldthwaite and Mullin to Elbert Calvin Tefertiller and Ava Belle Sherfield Tefertiller and given the name of Anna Belle Letha Tefertiller. She started first grade at the Center Point School and graduated from Goldthwaite High School. In 1942 she was engaged to Cecil A. David of Robstown, a Sergeant in the 36th Infantry Division while his unit was at Camp Bowie for training. She followed him to Jacksonville, Florida where they were married on April 8, 1942 before he shipped out to North Africa. Since she was not yet 21, a telegram was sent to her father requesting permission before the marriage could be performed. Her husband was severely wounded in the Italian campaign but returned to her in Goldthwaite where he attended GI school and worked as a bookkeeper and as a Raleigh salesman. In 1950 the family, now three, moved to Alice where Cecil and Anna Belle lived the remaining years of their lives, she as a home maker and he as a tool room operator for Flowers Machine Shop. Anna Belle would continue to return to Mills County to visit with family and friends and to go out to the old home place on Brown's Creek and walk the hardscrabble land where her people had tried to scratch out a living. She was preceded in death by her husband who died on June 7, 1974.
