Leonard Dather, the fifth of the six children born to George and Salena Dather, was born December 7, 1869 at Horton, Iowa. About five months ago, he had an attack of heart trouble and he had not been able to regain his accustomed health. He was taken to his bed less than a week before he succumbed to another attack at the hospital in Sibley, Iowa, on Monday evening, November 28, 1938, at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 21 days.
He received his education in the rural schools in Bremer County, Iowa where he grew to manhood. On December 10, 1894, he was united in marriage with Mary Storing. they settled on a farm near Melvin, Osceola county, Iowa, and lived in that vicinity until Mrs. Dather's death in 1928, since then, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. William Zahn, near Hartley and near Harris, Iowa.

Six children were born to them, one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Byron passed away in 1933, the others surviving him are Herman Dather of Primghar, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Zahn, of Harris, Iowa; Ivan Dather of Melvin, Iowa; Donald Dather; and Mrs. Fern Hass both of Harris, Iowa. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren.
