Bernice (Byrni) Darrington went home to be with her Lord Sunday, June 24, 2007.
She was born May 4, 1930, in Chicago, Ill. Bernice spent most of her childhood in Minnesota, where she met, fell in love with, and married Donald Richard Darrington. Bernice and Don had seven daughters, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
If you were to ask any one of her seven daughters, each one would tell you "I'm her favorite." Bernice had the unique ability to make everyone feel special. The family home was filled with love, laughter and singing.
Bernice led a full and active life. She treasured her family above all and was especially proud of her role as a mother and homemaker. She was a talented artist and found much joy in her painting and teaching others to paint. She loved singing in the church choir, as well as the Sweet Adelines. She was extremely humble about her accomplishments but she was particularly proud of going back to school and earning her bachelor's degree from Lewis-Clark State College, managing Aquatic World and Pets in Spokane and owning her own business, The Little Health Food Store.
Bernice loved reading, creative writing, her flower gardens, a cup of tea with Marye Barker, her many travels around the world with Charlotte Lane, especially their trip to the Holy Lands and her dog Clancy.
Bernice was dedicated to serving the Lord. She loved and treasured all of her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a member of Tammany View Baptist Church and was instrumental in the establishment of the Pomeroy Baptist Church through her mission work.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don; her sister, Catherine Smith; and son-in-law, Laurie Laurance.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Laurance, April DeBord, June and Rob Smith, Susan-anne and Bill Liedkie, Anita and Mike Bradley, Yvonne Bezotte, Kathleen and Scott Eppinger; and her brother, Clarence Bourland. She was cherished by her grandchildren, Melanie Guier and husband Dave, Cliff and Chad Miller, Shawna Harvey and husband Charlie, Crystal and Marc Eppinger, Jessica Pruett and husband Zaughn, Justin and Nick Liedkie and Vanessa Hooper, her great-grandchildren, Michael and Josh Guier, Warren and Jeremiah Miller, Beth and Angel Miller and Jesse and Marie Harvey.
