Birth: 1835
Arkansas, USA
Death: 1863
Arkansas, USA

John William (Bill) Dark was
a 'bushwhacker'.
He was active in north-central
area of Arkansas during the
Civil War.

Most of Dark's life is shrouded
in mystery. He lived in Little
Rock as a young man. He was the
subject of a news article where
he was accused of murder. He
was eventually found guilty of
the crime and was sentenced to
5 yrs. He was released on parole
with the promise he would join
up in the war effort. He soon
became a member of a band of
guerilla raiders, ruthless
and blood-thirsty.

William Dark was HUSBAND to
WIFE - Rachel Adeline George

They were wed in 1861

He was considered an evil man
who did harm to many families
under the guise of being a
raider in the cause of the war.

Dark was killed by Jim Berry
in 1863.

Because of his life-of-crime,
Dark was buried in an unmarked
grave and further disgraced by
being laid face down in his
fresh grave.

This biography is
humbly presented by
Audrey Burtrum-Stanley / Arkansas

Note: (legend says) Dark was buried at Kenner Slough near a large walnut tree. His grave has no marker on purpose; he was also buried face-down as a sign of his 'wrong / bad ways'.
