"William E. Darden
Smithfield - William Edwin Darden, 80, of Smithfield, died Sunday afternoon in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a long illness.
A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a member of Uzzell's Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Willis E Darden of Newport News; five daughters, Mrs Paul Godwin, Miss Ruth Darden, Mrs Alton Whitley and Mrs C L Hall Jr, all of Smithfield, and Mrs Thomas Lawson of Portsmouth; one brother, John Robert Darden, Jr of Smithfield; five sisters, Mrs W C Gale, Mrs Ralph Godwin, Mrs Horace Gwaltney, and Mrs Agnes Smith, all of Smithfield, and Mrs J J Bond of Carrollton and 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 pm in Uzzell's Methodist Church by the Rev Charles Price, pastor, and the Rev Otis Gilliam (Ret).
Burial will be in the church cemetery."
