He resided at 790 Hudson Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.
The Drexler, while on picket duty off Okinawa with the U.S.S. Lowry (DD-770), was attacked by Japanese kamikazes. The first one hit causing gasoline fires across the deck. The second one, a Japanese "Frances" P1Y1 bomber hit the Drexler and caused her to sink within 50 seconds. 158 crewmen were killed and 52 wounded.
Edward was declared "Missing In Action" in this sinking during the war.
He was awarded a Purple Heart.
