Rilla was the fourth of eight children, born to Marion Jackson Howell and Fannie Hames Howell. She came to Elkhart, Texas from Georgia in the spring of 1881 at the age of one. She married James William Daniels in 1894 and had a son, Alton Lee Daniels in 1898. She was the first of her immediate Howell family to pass away and the only one buried in Starr Cemetery. Her parents and seven siblings are buried in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, TX. Her son, Alton Lee Daniels, who died in 1911 at the age of 11 is also buried in Starr Cemetery.
