On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, God knew Alice Adeline Dandridge, 90, was getting very tired, so he called her home to be with him.
She was born January 10, 1918, the first of thirteen children to the late Archer Fleming and Mary Elizabeth Dandridge, Sr.
Early in life Alice joined New Anna Baptist Church of Louisa, VA.
She was educated in Louisa County Public Schools.
As a young adult she worked as a domestic engineer for private residences. Later she became employed as a sorter and inspector at 'Lil Bitty's and Fosters Clothing Manufacturers. Alice was a gifted seamstress, often making clothes by hand.
She was instrumental in the rearing of Brenda, her niece. A nurturing loving parent, Alice never failed to respond to Brenda's needs.
Alice enjoyed watching the soap operas, golf, baseball and the news. She was an excellent baker and was well known for her Sunday pound cakes made from scratch.
After retirement from Fosters Clothing Manufacturers, she relocated back home to Virginia in the Fall of 1998. She enjoyed her retirement, spending time with her family and reminiscing about her childhood years on the old home place.
Being the oldest of the thirteen children, Alice was the family historian and had many tales to tell which her siblings and younger generations that followed thoroughly enjoyed.
She leaves to cherish her momories, a niece, Brenda; four sisters, Rosa Brown, Ruth Dandridge, Vernel Morris and Eva Matthews (Mervin); one brother, Archie Dandridge (Mary); three sisters-in-law, Iola, Gloria and Estella; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11am Sunday, March 9, 2008 at New Anna Baptist Church, 11639 Cross County Road Mineral, Virginia 23117, with the Rev. Lewis W. Minor, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
