Through the death of Mrs Annette P. Dana which occurred Wednesday morning at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. E.M. Shapleigh at the Shapleigh home on Highland Street this section has lost another of its oldest and most respected ladies. Mrs Dana, although not seriously ill to within a few days before her death, had been quite poorly and her death was not unexpected.

Mrs. Annette P. Dana was born in Bloomfield, Ontario County, N.Y., January 27, 1834. She was educated in Albion, N.Y., in a female seminary, in the English, Classical and Musical course. While residing in Buffalo in 1855 she was married to N.P. Perkins, a brother of Mrs Shapleigh of this place, and a former resident of New Hampshire. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins resided in Lockport, N.Y., and Mr. Perkins was in the real estate business in Wisc., dealing extensively in Western land transactions. Mr. Perkins died in 1862. One son resulted from this union, William T. Perkins of Seattle, Wash. Mr. Perkins is a lawyer now in Nome, Alaska, employed as legal advisor by the Northwestern Commercial Co. Owing to the time of year and a great distance, Mr. Perkins will be unable to be present during the last rites over his dead mother.

In 1872 Mrs. Perkins, who for ten years, had been a widow, was married to Dr. J.A. Dana, a well known doctor in this section, who was a practicing physician in Ashland for about 50 years. Dr. and Mrs. Dana lived together for ten years when the doctor died. After his deat, Mrs. Dana went to Chicago to reside, living there 18 years, returning to Ashland, her former home, in 1899, where she has resided with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Shapleigh, since that time.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. Mr. Avery as officiating clergyman. Interment was in the family lot in Green Grove Cemetery. >The Ashland Citizen, March 23, 1907, p2.

Annette is the daughter of William and Lucy (Swan) Hawkins. She died of Bright's disease.
