Gerald E. Dalaba, 83 formerly of Pottersville passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at the North Adams Commons in North Adams Mass. following a long illness.
Born March 24, 1920 in Bakers Mills,he was the son of the late James and Cordie (Russell) Dalaba. Gerald was a lifelong resident of the area and married Alberta E. Moffitt on February 6,1940 at the Wesleyan Parsonage in Bakers Mills.
He was a WWII US Army veteran and served in the European Theater of Operations.
Gerald worked with the NYS Department of Transportation in Chestertown for 24 years before retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was a former member of the Horicon Baptist Church in Brant Lake.
His wife, Alberta died on February 19,1995 after 55 years of marriage. Six brothers, Erwin, Grover, Cleyon, Preston, Glen, Sheldon; two sisters, Loreta Tyrell and Ruth Robinson and an infant daughter, Geraldine have all predeceased him.
Survivors include his son, Philip Dalaba and his wife Patricia of Pottersville; his daughter Evelyn Monroe and her husband Kenneth of Pottersville; three sisters Althea Monroe of North Creek, Shirley Wheeler of Pottersville, Patricia Mosher of Johnsburg, 3 Grandsons (Daniel Hayes, Gerald Hayes and Jason Dalaba) 4 granddaughters (Deborah Howe, Sandra Ferry, Nicole Gifford and Kelly Wolfe), 10 great grandchildren (Daniel & Diana Howe, Samantha & Stephen Ferry, Jennifer & Adam Hayes, Ashley & Kacey Gifford, Sabrina Wolfe and Gennah Lamphier) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 6-8pm Friday evening at the Alexander Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11am Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Herrmann, pastor of the Thurman Baptist Church officiating
Burial will follow in Bates Cemetary, Johnsburg.
Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
