Rites Held Tuesday For J. K. Dailey, Sr. November 15, 1973

Funeral services for Mike Dailey, 58, of Grapeland, were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13 in the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Hinder officiating. Burial was in the Grapeland City Cemetery, under the direction of Hassell & Foster.
James Kent Dailey was born in Houston County December 18, 1914, son of the late Tom F. Dailey and Elizabeth Kent Dailey. He died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, November 12, in a Grapeland hospital, following a long illness. A farmer and rancher, he also owned and operated the D&D Hardware for 13 years. He was a member of the first Baptist Church, where he served many years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Grapeland Eastern Star, Chapter no. 120 and was a Past Master of Grapeland Masonic Lodge No. 473 AF & AM. For several years, he was president of the Grapeland School Board. Also he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Memorial Hospital in Grapeland, several years as president of Houston County Farm Bureau and also State Committee of Farm Bureau.
Masonic services were conducted at the graveside and the following masons served as active pallbearers: Arthur Walton, Jr., Ira Rials, Quention Shaver, Howard Wallace, Dan Pennington, John Kennedy, Charley Darsey and Jack Shoultz.
Named as honorary pall bearers: Dan Hill, Jack Spence, Herman Murchison, Joe Thomas Darsey, Willie Cheatham, Bob Scoggins, John S. Murchison, Frank Dailey, Lewis Chandler, M. R. Murchison, Bill Huff, Horace Jones, Jack Henderson, Ralph Walton, H. G. Jeffus and Than Vicksburg.
Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Hazel Scarborough Dailey, one son: J. K. Dailey, Jr., Sam Marcos, one daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Joyce Ann) Skidmore, Alvin; four brothers: Charles T. Dailey and Liston D. Dailey, both of Grapeland; Dan D. Dailey, New Orleans, and T. F. Dailey, Austin; one sister, Mrs. Ellen Spindle; two grandchildren; David and Stephen Skidmore
