Funeral service was postponed by the snowstorm from 1:30PM, Tuesday to 1:30PM, Wednesday, March 10, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Lori Wold officiating; scripture lessons were Matthew 11:28-30 and John 3:17, 17; vocalist, Diane Bergeson sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Softly and Tenderly;" and organist, Deb Lewis accompanied the singing of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Lloyd's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were honorary casketbearers and his great-grandsons: Brandon Nelson, Cody Nelson, Eric Michels, Darin Michels, Ryan Anderson, Matt Anderson, Ryan Borstad, Collin Bergeson, Noah Nelson and Nathan Nelson were active casketbearers. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Lloyd Albert Dahl was born October 3, 1918, in Providence Township, rural Dawson to Albert John and Minnie Mathilda (Dahlgren) Dahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church. He attended country school for 8 years and graduated from Canby High School in 1935. Lloyd helped his mother; he would bake cakes, which the family all enjoyed. When he was 8 years old, he drove their old car, taking his mother for a visit to his grandmother's place. On December 24, 1935, Lloyd and Louise Olive Hart were married at a Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD, having just celebrated 73 years of marriage. They lived in Garfield, Providence and Maxwell Townships, and in 1988, moved into Dawson. For 10 years, some of their summer months were spent at their lake home on Big Stone Lake, Ortonville, MN, and for 25 years, the winter months were enjoyed at Orangewood Shadows in Mesa, AZ. While in Arizona, he was the pitcher for the Orangewood Shadows Softball Team, and he also played pool at the park clubhouse. Lloyd was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson and Dawson Senior Citizens, which he really enjoyed. He liked games and playing cards, especially Buck Euchre. He was an avid reader of Louie Lamour and Zane Grey. In his younger years, there weren't many farm auctions missed by Lloyd, Alford F. Anderson and Lloyd B. Peterson. In winter months, Lloyd enjoyed ice fishing and in the summer months, he liked fishing in the boat. After he retired from farming, he transferred his love of the land to gardening, raising abundant crops that included tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. Lloyd and Louise entered the Madison Lutheran Home on February 17, 2009. Lloyd died suddenly on Thursday afternoon of March 5, at the Madison Hospital in Madison, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 3 days. He is survived by his wife, Louise; 2 daughters: Geraldyne Turner and husband, Marvin of Dawson and Joanne Nelson and husband, Larris of Canby; son-in-law, Jerome Bergeson and wife, Elaine of Dawson; brother, Harris Dahl and wife, Marian of Canby; 8 grandchildren: Cathy (Jim) Michels, Bruce (Diane) Bergeson, Connie (Terry) Anderson, Gary (Sandra) Nelson, Karen (Larry) Borstad, Chad (Joan) Nelson, Craig (Christine) Nelson and Corey (Allison) Nelson, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Darlene Bergeson on January 13, 1998; son-in-law, Paul G. Nelson on June 25, 1991; and brother, Winfield Dahl.
