Marian Maxine Burns, 75, of Caney, died Saturday morning at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla. She was a former Cherryvale resident. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caney, with the family receiving friends following the Rosary in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 am Thursday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cherryvale. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale. Casketbearers will be Shawn M. Foster, Matthew C. Burns, Ted A. Foster, Ken D. Foster, Clint D. Finney, and Terry L. Wood. Friends may visit until 5 pm today and from 8 am to 5 pm Tuesday and Wednesday at the Graves Funeral Home, Caney. Memorials are suggested to the Marian Burns Christmas Candy Fund or Meals on Wheels and may be left with the funeral home. Mrs. Burns was born Oct. 6, 1924 in Cherryvale to Samuel F. and Naomi R. (Kriebel) Dack. She was raised in the Cherryvale area, graduating from Cherryvale High School in 1942. During World War II she built airplanes for North American Mfg. Co. On May 27, 1946 she married John M. Burns, who survives, at Cherryvale. The couple lived in Parsons, Cherryvale, Manhattan, Sydney, Ohio and in Caney since 1956. Mrs. Burns worked at Kopco in various capacities until retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the American Legion Auxilary, and the PTA. She also worked with the Girl Scouts of America as a troop leader for many years. In addition to her husband, survivors include: four daughters, Rebecca Foster, Midwest City, Okla., Margaret "Peg" King, Tulsa, Okla., Judith Finney, Wichita, Carol George, Augusta; one son, John M. Burns Jr., Park City; one sister, Emma Jean Wood, Cherryvale; one brother Glenn S. Dack, Coffeyville; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
