Donald J. Daane, 62, of Oostburg, and a resident of Sheboygan Progressive Health Center, went home to his Lord on Wednesday morning, July 21, 2004, at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Sheboygan, the son of the late John and Wilma (Nyenhuis) Daane. Donald was a 1960 graduate of Oostburg High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On Feb. 19, 1965, Don married Linda Ongna in Gibbsville. Don worked as a custodian at Jackson Elementary School for 12 years before retiring in 2002 due to illness. Previously he worked at H.C. Prange Co. for 24 years in the warehouse and delivery.
He was a member of Gibbsville Reformed Church, where he was an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He enjoyed yard work, music and camping. Don dearly loved his grandchildren and had a special place in his heart for the teachers, staff and kids who attended Jackson School. Don cherished his longtime special friendship with his "little brother," Fred Mayer of Sheboygan.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; one daughter, Tonya Daane of Oostburg; two sons, Michael (Jodi) Daane of Waukesha, and Joel (Jackie) Daane of Oostburg; five grandchildren, Megan and Jacob Daane, Dustin, Adam and Jonathon Daane; one brother, Philip Daane of New Berlin; and one sister, Nella (Lloyd) Jasperse of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 24 at Gibbsville Reformed Church, with the Rev. Gerald A. Dykstra officiating. Burial will follow at Hingham Cemetery.
