Glenn A. Daane, 80, of Sheboygan, died at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice on Friday, November 5, 2010.
Glenn was born March 25, 1930 in Sheboygan to John and Louella (Fairweather) Daane.
He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1948. He furthered his education at Milwaukee State Teachers College where he earned his BA Degree in Education and Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
On June 23, 1951 Glenn was united in marriage to Marilyn Traas of Sheboygan at Hope Reformed Church, where Glenn served as Deacon and Elder. The couple celebrated over 59 years of marriage.
Glenn began his teaching career with the Racine Public School System as a music teacher and band director. In 1960 he continued his career as a music teacher with the Sheboygan Public School System, teaching at Urban Junior High School. He retired from teaching in 1987. Following his retirement he drove for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, a part time job he truly enjoyed.
Mr. Daane was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and Sheboygan Elks Lodge # 299. His name appears on the Fountain Park Band Shell as a member of the Music Wall of Fame. He played trumpet with the Kings of Swing and Reggie Barber Bands. Glenn was also a member of the Sheboygan Concert Association, and enjoyed the annual Pops Concert at Lakeland College, performed by the Sheboygan Symphony.
He enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Bucks. Following retirement, Glenn and Marilyn were able to share many cruises, and bus trips. His family recalls the fun times spent on camping trips in Northern Wisconsin.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Glenn is survived by four children, Michael (Kaye) Daane, Gail (Mike) Batina all of Sheboygan, Jill (Geoffrey Bray) Daane of Elkhart Lake and Mark (Paula) Daane of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Sarah Daane, Jacob Daane, Todd Batina, Jonathan (Brittany) Dippel, Jennifer Dippel, Justine Daane, Julia Daane and Olivia Daane; a great-grandson, Logan Dippel; a brother, Calvin (Jeanette) Daane of Tempe, Arizona, sisters-in-law, Blanche Daane of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Jean (Donald) Schmahl of Sheboygan; and other family members and friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Julian and Merritt.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at St. John's United Church of Christ. Rev. Gregory S. Whelton, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.
