Mr. Albert Clifford Duke, age 83, of Pensacola passed away Monday, August 18, 2008. He was born October 9, 1924 in Allen, AL. He moved to Pensacola in 1941. He was an Aircraft Mechanic with Naval Air station, Pensacola, FL for 38 years.
Mr. Duke was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of Lodge #296, a member of Hadji Temple, American Legion Post 240 and Warrington Elks # 2108. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He survived the sinking of the USS Lexington (CV-2) during the Battle of Coral Sea. After returning to the States he was then assigned to the 2nd Marine Division and deployed to the South Pacific where he fought in the Battle of Tarawa. He was our true American Hero.
His parents Ira Willard and Mary Adell Weaver Duke preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Duke, 1 son, Randy Duke (Sharon), 1 Daughter, Sandy Dickson (John), sister, Etta Rhee Reaves of Grove Hill, AL, 1 grandson, Cliff Duke USN, 3 granddaughters, April Duke, Carla Van Dyne, Tammy Allegretti, and 8 Great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:45 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. Interment will follow in the Barrancas National Cemetery.
OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
Asked to serve as Pallbearers are B.J. Odom, Steve Lind, Roger Leach, Chuck Murphy, John Thames, and LCDR Walt Chaney.
