Who Died July 5th AD 1861
Aged 97 years: and of
Mrs. Mary Cutts
His wife who died Septr. 1812
Aged 42 years.
Capt. Cutts was of honorable descent from
the early settlers of this region and highly
esteemed as a worthy, patriotic, and public
spirited citizen, a generous friend and patron
of enlightened and general education, sound
morals and religion. By his superior energy
and judgement and skill as a merchant, he amassed
much wealth: but he irrecoverably lost,
chiefly through the embargo of 1807, and
by the War with Great Britain in 1812.
Mrs. Cutts was the daughter of the late Charles Chauncey
Esq. of Portsmouth, N.H. and grand-daughter of the late
Rev. Dr. Chaucey of Boston; -- a kind-hearted charitable,
worthy and pious lady.
