Donald L. “Butch” Cutler, 57, of Dover Plains, passed away on Sun., Oct. 3, 2010 at Danbury Hospital from a brief illness.

Born on April 12, 1953 in Mahopac to the late Donald L. and Lena I. (Gould) Cutler, he was a 1973 graduate of Pawling High School, he then went into the US Marines Medical Corp. He later attended Dutchess Community College where he studied to be an EMT and a physician’s assistant.

Don was a 19 yr employee of P.A.R.C. in Brewster where he worked in a house as an aide. He also was a school bus driver for First Student Transportation, previously for Ryder Transportation.

Don joined the Pawling Fire Dept. in 1971 and transferred to J.H. Ketcham Fired Dept. in 1986, where he and served as lieutenant of both rescue squad and fire police, and became a lifetime member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 1949 in Wingdale, and Post 215 in Pawling.

Don was a member of Dover First Baptist Church in Wingdale Don faithfully served when and where he was needed.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Mildred Cutler, Henry and Mabel Gould; and his stepfather, Raymond R. Denny. He is survived by 2 sisters, Peggy Cutler-Marett of Perkins, GA and Donna Cutler-Brunow of Dover Plains; two nephews, Paul J. Brunow of Philadelphia, NY and Donald J. Brunow (DJ) and Diane of Hollywood, FL; great-nephew, Alexander J. Brunow of Philadelphia, NY; great-niece, Kimberly A. Brunow of Hollywood, FL; Godson, Christopher McCord of Rossville, GA; and several cousins, aunts, and an uncle.

Arrangements are under the direction of Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling. A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., Oct. 16, 2010 at 10AM at Dover First Baptist Church, Wingdale. J.H. Ketcham will conduct a service. Burial in Valley View Cemetery, Dover Plains. Reception to follow at the Tally-Ho Community Bldg, Route 22, Dover Plains.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s name to J.H. Ketcham Fire Dept., PO Box 706, Dover Plains, NY 12522. Condolences can be sent to the family c/o Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home.
