oseph "Joe" Francis Curtiss, 47, of La Grande, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. in the 4-H Building at the Fair Grounds in La Grande with a potluck to follow. Joseph was born June 24, 1966 in Baker, Oregon to Donald Lee Curtiss and Judith Ann Dickerson. Throughout his life, he made his residence in Baker, La Grande, Gresham, and Hermiston, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho.
Spending much of his life in La Grande, Mr. Curtiss attended school at Riveria Elementary, La Grande Middle School, La Grande High School, and Eastern Oregon State College.
Joe was married briefly to Terry J. Schiller for four years, after which, he found and married his true love, Sheral Curtiss, and spent 19 happy years together.
Joseph spent his career as a construction worker, however, he eventually found himself disabled. He was enrolled in the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program.
Some of his favorite pastimes were camping, fishing, gardening, spending time with family, and just helping any and everybody that crossed his path. In high school he was on the wrestling squad. Of course, he would have considered his greatest achievements to be his kids, grandkids and every other kid that had the privilege of being influenced by him.
Surviving family members include his wife Sheral Curtiss of La Grande; children Chelsie Curtiss of La Grande, Matthew Curtiss of La Grande, Becky Arant and husband Tyrel of La Grande, Tony Whitemen of La Grande, Jeremy Smith of La Grande, Christopher Smith of La Grande, Dawn Geoppinger and husband Dan of Ohio; parents Don and Nancy Curtiss of Baker, and Judy and husband Bill Blevins of La Grande; siblings Teresa Curtiss, Jim and wife Janice of Vancouver, Washington, Michael Curtiss of La Grande, and John Curtiss of La Grande; 13 grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Curtiss Jr. and Mark Curtiss.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, to help with the funeral expenses, may be made to the family in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth Street, La Grande, OR 97850
