Albert B. Curtiss, for many years a prominent farmer here, died at his home in Meta, Mo., Monday, death resulting from apoplexy with which he was stricken the Saturday previous. Mr. Curtiss was 79 years of age. After leaving Waverly seventeen years ago, he resided at Lawrence, Kansas, for several years but in recent years has resided at Meta. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons.
The body was brought to Waverly, arriving Wednesday afternoon and taken to East cemetery for burial. Short services were held at the grave, Rev. O. R. Thom officiating.
A complete obituary will appear in next week's Journal.
----------
Albert Burnett Curtiss was born February 13, 1842 at Ruggles, Ohio. His parents, Augustus and Lucy Judson Curtiss, had emigrated to Ohio from Warren, Connecticut, with the early settlers of Ohio. He had one sister, Lucy Judson Curtiss, who died in1908 in Lawrence, Kansas.
After the close of the Civil War the family, together with a number of relatives and friends, came westward to Illinois, and settled near what is now Waverly.
In 1886 Mr. Curtiss married Cedie Timmons. To them were born seven children, two of whom, Charles Albert and Mabel Lucille, died in childhood.
Soon after his marriage, Mr. Curtiss purchased the home and farm of Mr. Salter, one of the founders of Waverly. At this place he and his family lived for several years, until they moved to Lawrence, Kansas, in 1904.
In 1914, they moved to Meta, Missouri, where Mr. Curtiss engaged in stock raising for the few years prior to his death.
In 1919, he was stricken with paralysis from which he partly recovered. Another stroke followed two years later, and from this time his health steadily failed him.
His death was caused by apoplexy with which he was stricken on December 24 (1921). He passed away three days later, and his body was brought by his family to Waverly, to be laid away beside his parents.
He is survived by his wife and five children: two daughters, Mrs. Willis H. Laughlin of Haven, Kas., and Miss Helen Curtiss of St. Louis; three sons, Allan and Elmer of Meta, Mo. and the eldest son, William, of Eldon, Mo.
Short funeral services were held at East cemetery Wednesday afternoon December 28, Rev. O. R. Thom, of the Congregational church officiating.
