Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company L, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on September 9, 1861. He was taken prisoner by Confederate forces near Warrenton, Virginia, on November 12, 1863, and was eventually sent to the Camp Sumter Confederate Prison at Andersonville, Georgia. There he died of "diarrhoea" (dysentery) on July 17, 1864.
