Reverend James M. Curtis was born a son to Joseph and Marina Curtis. He was a farmer and a grocer, as well as a minister. He married Roberta J. Lowery on 6 March 1865 in Lawrence County, Alabama. Their children were Carrie M. Curtis Windham, Joseph S. Curtis, Walter G. Curtis, Ella A. Curtis Wilkerson, Lela Inez Curtis Murphy and Mattie Curtis.
New Decatur Advertiser December 3, 1908:
James M. Curtis, age 63 years died November 23rd at his late residence, Curtis Wells, on Moulton Road. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. I. Stockton from the residence Tuesday. Interment was in the family burial ground.
