Mr. Richard Dean Curtis
70 of near Galesburg died at 10:40 pm Saturday, April 26, 2008 at his home.
He was born on November 29, 1937 in Buchanan County, Iowa to Richard M. and Eula I. Satterlee Curtis. He married Ethel May Noble on August 24, 1957 in Austin, MN. She survives.
Rich is also survived by two daughters, Veronica Curtis of Manchester, IA and Valeria Herren of Abingdon; five sons, Wendell (and Jerri Lynn) Curtis of Andover, IL, Wilbur (and Terasa) Curtis of Gilson, IL, Wesley Curtis of near Galesburg, IL, Wayne Curtis of Wataga, IL and Master Sergeant Happy (and Carmen) Curtis of San Antonio, TX and currently stationed in Korea; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Curtis of Colorado, Keith (and Cordelia) Cutis of Nampa, ID and Kenneth (and Lona) Curtis also of Nampa, ID; a stepbrother, Dwayne Prindle of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard M. Curtis, his mother and stepfather, Eula and Ernie Prindle.
He graduated from Oelwein High School in Oelwein, Iowa. He graduated from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. He served as a minister in the Assembly of God Churches and had served as the minister in Cleveland, IL for 12 ½ years. He also filled the pulpit for several area churches as a guest speaker or when called upon. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Abingdon and was a past trustee of the church.
He also worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 20 years and later as the assistant supervisor of work equipment for Burlington Northern Railroad in Galesburg for 19 years.
He had lived near Galesburg since 1985 and prior to that had lived in Cambridge and Colona, IL and also in Missouri and Iowa.
He was a volunteer at the Care Center of Abingdon, where he taught a Sunday School Class. He also volunteered with Angel Food Ministry in Abingdon.
His hobbies included gardening and working on tractors. He was a member of the Spoon River Antique Agriculture Association and a member of Case IH Tractor Club.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Thursday, May 1, 2008 at First Assembly of God Church, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Rev. Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
