Ellen Louise (Curry) Calnan, 70, of New Bedford died Wednesday December 4, 2002 at Alden Court Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fairhaven after a long illness. She was the wife of Theodore J. Calnan.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Hetty M. (Harrington) and John T. Curry, Jr., she had lived in New Bedford for all of her life. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and Framingham State College.

She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mrs. Calnan was formerly employed as a teacher for the New Bedford Public Schools and Holy Family-Holy Name School. She later was an instructional media assistant at New Bedford High School until her retirement.

She was a member of the New Bedford Catholic Woman's Club and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include her husband; 2 sons, James A. Calnan of New Bedford, and John C. Calnan and his wife Lisa of Westport; 2 daughters, Cathleen M. Riley and her husband Thomas of Milton, and Dorothy M. Costa and her husband James of New Bedford; a sister, Dorothy A. Curry of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, Ian P. Calnan, Elizabeth C. Calnan, James F. Costa, Noreen E. Costa, Ellen P. Costa, Patrick J. Riley, and Meagan C. Riley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late John T. Curry, III.
