William was the son of James Curran (born in County Waterford) and Margaret Gettings (AKA Gethins) in Cloonacool, County Sligo (NOT County Meath) and the grandson of William Curran, Catherine Tobin Curran, Michael Gethins and Mary O’Hara. He was first generation American. He married Mary C. Clarke 9 Aug 1934. He was a switchman for Chicago and Northwestern RR, later working as a city employee (an oiler) for the Sanitary District. He and Mary had five known children: Margaret Curran Heitshu, Marion Curran Clifford, Lillian Curran (she never married) and William Curran.
