The worst snowstorm ever in Clinton Co IA, reportedly 20 inches, occurred during the winter of 1849-50, the winter Sallie was born. After the death of her mother, her father moved her and 3 siblings Ottumwa, Coffey Co, KS (Burlington area) in 1857. She died at the home of her daughter Josie in Hanford CA. Charlie Van Orden was there and wrote Josie's sister in KS that she died peacefully, without pain.

Mrs. Sarah Cupp Dies in Hanford - Mrs. Sarah A. Cupp passed away at 2:30 Saturday at Hanford at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. Morris, 121 East Fourth street. She was 91 years of age and a native of Iowa, having lived in California since 1907 [correction: 1908] and in Hanford the past ten years. Survivors are two sons, Albert of Van Nuys and Robert of Hanford; two daughters, Mrs. E. Morris of Hanford and Mes. M. Sourby [Sowerby] of Kansas. Other survivors are ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Hanford at 2 p.m. Tuesday under the direction of Phipps Mortuary of Lemoore. Rev. Claude hall will officiate. Burial will be in Lodi cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
