She was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Lorn and Alta Cox Cunningham. She married Estill Gerard Bauer on July 25, 1938, in Pittsfield, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley (Stan) Lowe of Jerseyville; two granddaughters, Kimberly (Dirk) Baecht of Grafton, and Julie (Brett) Arnett of Palmyra; six great-grandchildren, Allison, Dalton and Logan Baecht, all of Grafton, Cole and Peyton Arnett, both of Palmyra, and Breanna (Jacob) Dalton of Jerseyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Estill; one daughter, Eleanor Bauer; five brothers, Keith, Carl, Bill, John and Pat Cunningham; three sisters, Lucille Butler, Mildred Hess and Kathleen Cunningham; and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine lived all her life in the Pittsfield area with the exception of the last nine years in Jerseyville. She worked, as a nurse, for Dr. Myer Shulman and Dr. Jack Bailis in Pittsfield for several years before retiring.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield with burial at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Pittsfield West Cemetery or First Christian Church of Pittsfield.
