Nancy Luella's father was Georgia native James R. Hale. Mr. Hale was born circa 1827; he died circa 1863 from pneumonia, in a Confederate hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Information re: burial location and
inscription came from 2004 survey
by Pat Sabin, submitted to OldPlaces.org/GwinnettGA/Cemeteries

Additional information was taken from U.S. Census enumerations for 1860 (with what appear to be parents and siblings in Gwinnett County, Georgia,) 1870 (with what appear to be widowed mother and siblings in Gwinnett County, Georgia,) 1880 and 1900 (with spouse (Mr. Swink) in Berkshire, Gwinnett, Georgia,) 1910, 1920, and 1930 (with spouse (Mr. Cummins) in Berkshire, Gwinnett, Georgia;) Georgia, Marriage Records From Select Counties, 1828-1978 (re: 1880 marriage to Mr. Swink;) and Georgia, Confederate Pension Applications, 1879-1960 (mother's applications for widow's pension.)

Another contributor has suggested, based on the Georgia Death Certificate Number 11101 (informant Mrs. H. H. Jones, of Decatur, Ga.,) that Mrs. Cummins was born in Gwinnett County, Georiga, June 30, 1859 and that she died in Lilburn, Gwinnett County. The death certificate does give the suggested date of birth, but the year 1860 is what is inscribed on her grave; the informant seems to have made a mistake. The death certificate states only that Louella [sic] was born in Georgia, and that she died in Gwinnett County; it does not give the county of her birth, or the town of her death. (It does give Lilburn as the town where she resided at the time of her death, but does not state that she died at home.)
