Marie Cummings Black, 85, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, November 27, 2001.

Marie was a longtime member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and a retired cafeteria worker with Roanoke County Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lester Black.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur L., Jr. and Carolyn Black, C. Barry and Betty Black, all of Roanoke; her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy B. and William F. Griggs, Jr., Roanoke, Penny B. and Wayne H. Newell, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel Friday, November 30, 2001, 11 a.m. with the Rev. David P. Fisher officiating. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the staff at Superior Residences of Pheasant Ridge for their loving care and concern for Marie. The family suggests memorials be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 624 Ferdinand Ave., Roanoke, Va. The family will receive friends Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
