A total of five funeral services for victims of the ferry accident on the river here last Sunday night have been held in this city this week. Without especial regard for chronological order nor otherwise the following account of such services is presented:
Etta Lee Guy
A double funeral service for Jessie Lee and Etta Lee Guy, whose bodies were recovered Tuedsay afternoon some distance in the river almost opposite this city about 3 o'clock and 1:30 o'clock respectively was held at Maple Cemetery at 6:30 that evening. The family lived at 501 Juliet avenue in this city and Mr. Guy was employed as a deckhand on the Taylor ferry.
The Rev. D.K. Foster conducted the brief service for the two victims of the tragedy and their bodies were interred side by side. They were married in this city October 6, 1941 and had made their home here since.
Mrs. Guy was born in Dyer County, Tenn., May 10, 1893 and was a little more than 53 years old. She was the daughter of James and Edna Cummings. Her husband also was a Tennessean, having been born in Gipson County in that state December 17, 1893, aged 52 years, 7 months and 11 days at his death. He was the son of William and Mary Guy and he had lived in this vicinity for about eight years.
Being a second marriage for one or both of them, the couple are survived by the following: Jesse and Aaron Davidson of Portageville, Alvin Davidson of Alamo, Tenn., James, Raymond and Hollis Guy of Trenton, Tenn., George Guy of the U.S. Army, stationed in Maryland, Miss Edna Davidson of Portageville, Martha and Dorothy Gordon of Caruthersville, Mrs. Evelyn Dinning of Caruthersville, Mrs. Lucille Stanfield and Miss Martha Guy of Trenton, Tenn.
Mrs. Guy leaves three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Clark of Portageville; Mrs. Pauline Warden of Newbern Tenn. and Mrs. Mary Bailey of Jackson, Tenn. Mr. Guy is survived by four brothers and three sisters; being Rankin Guy of Bradford, Tenn., Frank and Sam Guy of Lilbourn, Mo., and Joe Guy of Trenton, Tenn., Miss Mattie Guy of Dyer, Tenn., Mrs. Virgie Stewart of Dyer, Tenn., and Mrs. Irene Patterson of Rutherford, Tenn. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of this service.
