Services were held at First Christian Church Monday afternoon for Melvin Hershel Cummings, who died suddenly Saturday, March 11, at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital after becoming ill a short time earlier.
The Rev. Bill Griffin and Rev. John Bell officiated and burial was in Maple Cemetery with Dean Funeral Home service.
The son of Hershel and Ora June Eads Cummings, he was born in St. Louis December 7, 1927, and was 44 years old. At the time of his death he was operator of the Valley Farms Dairy business here.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Lee Cummings of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Cummings of the city; four sons, Jimmy H. Cummings of St Louis, Alvin, Melvin and John Paul Cummings of Caruthersville; Three daughters, Mrs. Mary Tinnin of St. Louis, Mrs. Amy Dean of Potosi and Miss Marie Cummings of the home; a sister, Mrs. Dollie Harrison of Caruthersville, and two step-daughters, Peggy and Connie Garner of Caruthersville.
