"Barney Lee Cumbest, 65, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. Mr. Cumbest, a native of Lucedale and resident of Three Rivers Community in Jackson County most of his life, resided at the time of his death at Rt. 5, Box 151, Pascagoula. He was employed as a dryer at Zapata Protein Company. Mr. Cumbest was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosa Lee Cumbest, Three Rivers; three daughters, Mrs. Delphia Bishop, Destin, Fla.; Mrs. Mary Lou Herndon, Helena; Mrs. Marlene Pierce, Lucedale; four sons, Carbury (Buck) Cumbest, Augusta, Ga.; Varnie(sic) Lee Cumbest, Athens, Greece; Bester Cumbest, Hurley; Gerald Cumbest, Helena; a brother, Vaughan (Dick) Cumbest, Gautier, and two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Elworth, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Cunny Hill, Houma, La. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday from Fails Funeral Chapel in Moss Point with the Rev. Alton Kirkwood and the Rev. Harry Reeves officiating. Friends may call after 6 p.m. at Fails in Moss Point.
