--Occupation: He was a laborer on the family farm in 1910. By 1920, his family had moved into Pineville, Mecklenburg Co., NC & Alva worked in a cotton mill. By 1930 he was a guard at convict camp. Later he was a guard for the State Highway Dept.
--He married Brinnie Fowler on Oct. 2, 1929 in Mecklenburg County.
