Dora Mae Ballard, 87, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and family on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Hillview Health Center. She was the daughter of the late Mike and Laura Griffen Culbert and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Estel Ballard on March 14, 1953; a son, Shorty Ballard; three brothers, John Wesley Culbert; John Henry Culbert; a sister, Ina Dugger; a son-ion-law, Jerry Elliott and a grandson, Timothy Cornett.

Mrs. Ballard was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She loved working with her flowers, gardening, and taking trips.

She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Ballard, Elizabethton; Judy Elliott, Hampton; Margaret Cornett and her husband, Rev. Jerry Cornett, Elizabethton; and Patsy Ballard and her fiancé, Teddy Daugherty; Elizabethton; two sons, Bill Ballard and his wife, Barbara, Roan Mountain; Mack Ballard and his wife, Corrine, Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Ballard, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Ballard will be conducted on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Jim "Butch" Stout officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by her son-in-law, Rev. Jerry Cornett. Music will be under the direction of Bud Taylor. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday prior to the service or at her home, 134 Aviation Drive, at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Keenburg Free Will Baptist Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Elliott, Keith Elliott, Scotty Cornett, Joey Ballard, Bernie Lewis, and Carlos Bradford. Her special friends and honorary pallbearers are; her Harmony Baptist Church family, the members of her Sunday school class; Larry and Sue Culbert; Peggy Meredith; Georgia Lewis; Steve Sellers, and her friends and neighbors. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hillview Health Center, Dr. Kevin Sweet and Associates; Dr. Beard, and the doctors of the First Medical Group for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Ballard and the family.
