Shelby Callahan - LEESBURG, VA.

LEESBURG, Va. Shelby Culberson Callahan entered into rest on Monday, September 20, 2010, at Inova Loudon Hospital, Leesburg, VA, after a brief stay at Heritage Hall Nursing Facility.

She has resided with her son, Larry, and his family for the past three and one-half years in Louisville, KY, and Leesburg, VA.

She was born on July 28, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Winston and Frances Watterson Culberson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Helen Sayers, Nadine McAdams and Winnetta Sexton; and a nephew, Albert Neal Sayers, Jr.

She was a graduate of Langston High School and attended Swift Memorial College in Rogersville, TN. She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church in her early years, Johnson City, TN, and St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, IL. She retired from the US Postal Service in 1998.

She is survived by her brother, Harold Culberson, Redbank, Mississippi; two daughters, Lisa Callahan Black (Bobby), of Chattanooga, TN, Robin Callahan, Chicago, IL; two sons; Larry (Linda) Callahan and David Callahan, Leesburg, VA; two granddaughters, Rhonda Woolwine and Candace Callahan; four grandsons, Christopher Woolwine, Alexander and Austin Callahan and Holiday Stearn; four great grandchildren, DaVonte', Cheyenne, Dominique, and DaRion; several nieces and nephews; a cousin, Martha Cothorn, of Ann Arbor, MI; and a devoted childhood friend, Hasseltine Howard.

Loving appreciation to Linda Callahan for her devotion and care giving spirit.

Funeral services will be held on 12:30 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the Birchette Mortuary "Chapel of Love."

Burial to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.

Friends may register and view from 1 PM until 5 PM Saturday at Birchette Mortuary.
