Amy Inez Parmer Cruzan

Amy Inez Cruzan, 82, of Joplin, MO passed away Thursday January 23, 2014 at her home.

She was born July 5, 1931 in Leeton, MO. to Walter and Lela Mae (Case) Parmer.

Amy retired from the Ottawa County Health Department after 31 years, where she received the Sadie Award, the highest honor given by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

She volunteered for the March of Dimes and participated in the Walk America Program.

She was a member of the Friends Church in Miami and attended the Community Church in Joplin.

She graduated from Picher High School. She helped organize and served on the committee for the Picher Oklahoma All School Reunion.

Until her illness, she worked part–time as a product demonstrator for Wal–Mart stores and Price Cutters.

Her oldest daughter Debbie Holderfield passed away in April 2005.

She was preceded in death by her brother E.M. Parmer who was killed in the line of duty while serving as Deputy Sheriff of Leavenworth, County, KS.

Amy is survived by her husband of 65 years, James J Cruzan. They resided in Joplin, MO., but both were former residents of Picher, Oklahoma.

Her surviving children are Cindy MacAuley of Baxter Springs, KS, Dr. Jeff Cruzan of Edmond, OK and Greg Cruzan of Miami, OK., grandchildren are Michelle Johnson of Fairland, OK, Kerri Karnes of Baxter Springs, KS, Treaton Turner, Tristan Cruzan, Thomas Cruzan and Tadan Cruzan of Edmond, OK and Craig Cruzan of Norman, OK and Jannesa Cruzan of Stillwater, OK., Marc Holderfield of Reeds Spring, MO, and Shanna Holderfield of Miami, OK. Great Grandchildren Jared Johnson, Breanne Johnson of Fairland, OK Hunter Holderfield, Marlie Holderfield of Reeds Spring, MO., sisters Betty Coleman of Hermosa Beach, CA., Maxine Moss of Joplin, Mo. brother Walter Parmer, Jr. of Lawrence, KS.

Funeral Services will be Sunday January 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, OK. Pastor Bill Richey will officiate. Pallbearers are her four oldest grandsons, Treaton Turner, Tristan Cruzan, Craig Cruzan and Marc Holderfield, her nephews David Parmer and Ralph Feagon. Honorary Pallbearers are great grandson Jared Johnson and nephews Bill Parmer and Ronnie Feagon.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery Northwest of Treece, Kansas.

Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, OK.
