Lucile Crunk Calvert, 87 years of age, a lifelong resident of Florence, Ala., died after a brief illness at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. Born June 28, 1921, Mrs. Calvert was a graduate of Central High School and Larimore Business College. An avid reader, she also enjoyed writing, movies, crossword puzzles and socializing with friends. A romantic at heart, she was known for her quick wit and love of life and learning. For several years, she acted as classroom "grandparent" in the Foster Grandparent Program at Weeden School, Brandon School and Hibbett School, where students cherished her patience and warmth.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Calvert Terry; son, John S. Calvert; their spouses, John Wayne Terry and Lynn Calvert; and her five granddaughters, Debra Glass, Julie Marks, Amy Wood, Lana Bevis and Shelly Cash, who all live in the Shoals area. She is further survived by her beloved great-grandchildren. Mrs. Calvert was preceded in death by her husband, William James Calvert; her parents, John and Johnnie Crunk; and her two sisters, Hazel Foust and Florence Hodges.
Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Tommy James officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann, nursing staff at ECM Hospital, the staff and residents of Heritage Manor Assisted Living, and special friend, Joyce Crowden.
