Birth: Jun. 29, 1899
Brampton Abbots
Herefordshire, England
Death: May, 1993
British Columbia, Canada

ALFRED JAMES SIDNEY (SID) Crump was the youngest son of seven children born to JOHN Crump and ELIZABETH SMITH. SID was born on 29-Jun-1899 in Brampton Abbots, Herefordshire, England (Ross-on-Wye).

A few weeks before SID turned 4 years old his mother, ELIZABETH died on 01-May-1903 & his father, JOHN died on 08-Jun-1903. His eldest sister, EDITH (18 years), is listed as being with both her parents when they died within three weeks of each other, leaving the seven children orphaned.

Clara (Edith) married Albert Morgan in abt 1905 in Gloucestershire County, England. Mary (Elizabeth) appears on the 1901 Census (age 14) as a servant for Edwards Family. His younger sister, Dorothy who was about 9 years old when her parents died, appears on the 1911 British Census aged 17, that she was living in St Jude's Home for Girls (L Waifs & Strays Home 1904-1939), located at 49 Dangnall Park, Selhurst, London. On the 1911 Census she appears married to Edward T Ward with two daughters living in Epsom, Surrey.

It is known that the brothers, Charles Frederick 10 years old, Reginald Horace (Reg) 6 years old, and Alfred James Sidney (Sid) 4 years old were all admitted into the care of Dr. Barnardo's Home.

On 24-Mar-1904, 10 months after Charles parents died, he was emigrated with 194 other Dr. Barnardo's children from Liverpool, England to Toronto, Ontario, Canada via Portland, Oregon, aboard the SS Southwark. It is noted that his name was incorrectly listed as Clarence Frederick Crump. Charles arrived on 05-Apr-1904.

Also noted that Reg & Sid emigrated on 21-Feb-1907 from Liverpool, England to Toronto, Ontario, Canada via Portland, Oregon, & Halifax, Nova Scotia Ports aboard the Dominion ship arriving 05-Mar-1907 and believed that the three boys were reunited in Saskatchewan years after they had been separated.

Life was extremely difficult as a British Home Child - as a youngster, SID "road the rails' from Ontario to Saskatchewan, settling in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Canada. He strength and tenacity are evident in the accomplishments he obtained during his lifetime.

April 12 1929, SID married MAUDE EILEEN BAXTER and together they raised their four boys and three girls in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Canada.

SID was well-known in Kerrobert 'as the best curling ice rink maker' in Southern Saskatchewan.

Records indicate Sid died just one month shy of his 94th birthday in May 1993 (aged 93 years) in Burnaby, British Columbia.
